When the morbid growth occupies the cardiac end of the stomach, its removal is impossible, and an obstruction to the entry of food into the organ is the main indication for surgical interference. In all cases, as soon as the diagnosis of stricture of the lower end of the oesophagus can be made gastrostomy should be performed.
