This short trunk arises from the subclavian artery, close to the internal margin of the scalenus anticus muscle, and opposite to the origin of the internal mammary artery. Immediately after its origin it divides into the following branches:—
Inferior Thyroid. Posterior Scapular, or Supra-Scapular, or Trans-Transversalis Colli, versalis Humeri.
