These animals perform the duties of both Horse and Hound. Their endurance in harness is truly astonishing. They are accustomed to hard work, scanty fare and ill-usage; yet they never desert their post, or forsake their master. They are natives of the extreme northern latitudes, consequently ill-adapted to Southern climates.
To them we are partially indebted for the discoveries of Parry, Ross, M'Clintock, Kane etc.
