This variety of the chestnut on a small scale is found as a shrub in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, but in the Southern States it grows to the height of thirty or forty feet. The fruit is small, but sweet. The wood is much more durable than the chestnut, but on account of its small size it will hardly pay any but one having the curiosity to raise it.
